About ACCA Applied Knowledge

The Applied Knowledge level introduces the core principles of business and accounting through three subjects:

BT – Business and Technology

Understand how businesses operate, including:

• Business structures and functions
• Governance and internal controls
• Technology and information systems
• Professional ethics
• The business environment

FA – Financial Accounting

Develop essential financial accounting skills, including:

• Accounting principles
• Double-entry bookkeeping
• Recording transactions
• Trial balances and adjustments
• Preparation of financial statements

MA – Management Accounting

Learn how accounting information supports business planning and decision-making, including:

• Cost accounting
• Budgeting and planning

Entry Requirements

Students who meet ACCA's direct entry requirements may begin the ACCA Qualification without completing FIA.

Direct entry may be available with:

2 GCE A-Level passes or 6 CAPE units

AND

3 CXC subjects or 3 GCE O-Level passes

Final eligibility is determined by ACCA based on the applicant's qualifications.

Becoming an ACCA Member

To become an ACCA member, students must satisfy ACCA's requirements, including:

• Completing the required examinations or exemptions
• Completing the Ethics and Professional Skills Module
• Completing the required Practical Experience Requirement (PER)
• Meeting ACCA's other membership requirements

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to complete FIA before ACCA?

No. Students who meet ACCA's direct entry requirements may enter ACCA directly. FIA provides an alternative pathway for students who do not meet those requirements.

Can I study only one Applied Knowledge subject?

Yes. Students may study one, two or all three subjects.

Can I receive exemptions?

Possibly. Exemptions depend on your previous qualifications and are determined by ACCA.

What comes after Applied Knowledge?

Students can progress to ACCA Applied Skills, subject to ACCA's progression requirements.
